A rotten-egg smell is usually bacteria reacting with the anode rod, more often on wells or on tanks that sit unused. It is unpleasant but not the same as a gas leak. A.R. Mechanical can confirm the anode and flush the tank. A true gas smell, with no sulphur at other faucets, is an emergency.
