Water under the tank usually means the tank itself has corroded, and it should be replaced before it floods the floor. Drips from the temperature-and-pressure (T&P) valve, a fitting, or the drain valve can sometimes be repaired. Shut the cold-water supply if the leak is active, and do not cap a dripping T&P valve.
