No hot water is usually a tripped breaker, a blown fuse, a failed gas valve or igniter, a pilot that is out, or a tank that has failed. Check the breaker and the switch on the unit first. If it is gas and you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility, then book a licensed technician.
