An HRV (heat recovery ventilator) brings in fresh outdoor air and exhausts stale indoor air while transferring heat between the two streams. Newer tight homes in Ontario are often built with one. An older drafty house may not need one unless you are sealing and insulating and the air feels stale or humid.
